The Ziggurat Model: A Framework for Designing Comprehensive Interventions for Individuals with High-Functioning Autism and Asperger Syndrome by Ruth Aspy, Ph.D., and Barry Grossman, Ph.D.

The difference between “The Ziggurat Model” and so many other books describing interventions for children with autism spectrum disorders is that while those others give lists of interventions, “The Ziggurat Model” lays out how to develop the plan on an individual basis. The Underlying Characteristics Checklist and other components included with this work help identify behaviors that might otherwise be overlooked or lead to misdiagnoses, as well as provide information that is helpful in developing the individualized plan for each child. While it was written for professionals, I found it very helpful as a parent, as it provides practical input and ideas to have on hand at my children’s case conference reviews.

“The Ziggurat model” has been released as a college textbook as well.

Congrats to Ruth and Barry – “The Ziggurat Model” was recently announced as winner of the Autism Society of America’s Literary Work of the Year in the Education Division!!!

The reason so many people are outraged about autism diagnosis is because they see the frauds who have infiltrated the autism community. Case in point: Jenny Mccarthy. Fact: Her son had febrile seizures. Subsequently, he suffered serious, temporary developmental delays. No doubt, McCarthy was shocked. Traumatized. It was tough. But then the troubles got better when her son started recovering after taking anti-convulsants….but that wasn’t enough for Mccarthy…like any good Hollywood celebrity, she saw her time to shine. She jumped all over the autism label..and she got it. Now, she’s hijacked the label and stories of other moms who have raised autistic children, as to hide her lack of experience and actual challenge of actually raising a child with true autism. What’s more, if her son has seizures…if his primary challenge was rooted in seizures and caused the most damage, then why has she never joined up with the epilepsy foundation? Why only the autism community? Likewise, has anyone researched Jenny’s new age belief? Her radical new age philosophy which includes “children of the new earth” “indigo moms” “power of now” “laws of attraction” “ester hicks (which explains why she prays to a deceased child in her book mother warriors)……since hicks gets all her inspiration from ‘alien beings”….there’s so much more behind Mccarthy than people really know because they haven’t checked…..google mccarthy and indigo, children of new earth, laws of attraction…power of now…..and you’ll quickly see what she’s really all about….this new age movement has infiltrated vulnerable populations..especially autism and children who are on drugs…….because the new agers know how desperate and vulnerable the families are…how they are desperate for hope and healing, even if it’s false hope and healings rooted in false diagnosis.

We are beginning training on this concept. I am an SI trained occupational therapist. Who was consulted in the “sensory differences” part of the base of the pyramid. In the past the psych community and ABA team discounted the theory now it is coming into a critical part of the approach. Is this concept and approach partnering with what has been a part of therapy for OT, PT and SLP or is it a declaration of a new “novel” approach??? Just wondering about the origins. I also get the the origins of the name but why not call it a pyramid?? SI has a developmental hierarchy and it is pyramidal… WOOO ZIggurat
